A quiet shelf of sweet-themed mobile games

Candy, dessert and fruit puzzles read the slow way: one editor, a mid-range Android phone, and notes taken over several evenings. Three titles are on the shelf right now, each checked against its store listing before it was written up.

Three titles, played long enough to describe them properly

Two are one-time purchases in the store and one is free to start. Nothing below is ranked, scored out of ten or sorted by popularity — the order is simply the order they arrived on the shelf.

Sweet Drmzzz

Bart Bonte

A night-time puzzle built the way a night light works: one idea, dimmed, repeated until it clicks. Each screen holds a single rule to notice, and the drifting sugar shapes stay quiet enough to play with the sound off.

Cookie Jam Blast™ Match 3 Game

Jam City, Inc.

The most familiar shape on the shelf: a bakery-themed match-three with thousands of boards and a steady drip of new episodes. It asks for very little at the start, which is exactly why it survives a commuter train better than the other two.

A lane-defence board dressed as a dessert diorama. Translucent jelly units hold the path while pastel invaders roll in, and the studio keeps every number readable, so most of the thinking happens before a level starts rather than during it. By the fourth map the layouts stop forgiving a lazy opening, which is where the game finally shows its teeth — gently, and with a soundtrack that never raises its voice.

Side by side, before anything is installed

Six things worth knowing in advance: what kind of game it is, how long one sitting really takes, how quickly it turns demanding, whether it works with the connection off, and what the store asks for it.

Session shape, offline behaviour and Google Play Canada store facts for the three titles currently on the TroveGlint shelf.
Title Genre Typical sitting Learning curve Plays offline Store price Editorial mark
Sweet Drmzzz Puzzle Four to eight minutes a screen Gentle, and taught without a word of tutorial text Yes, fully $3.39 CAD The one for the last hour of the evening
Jelly Defense Strategy Twelve to twenty minutes a level Steep from the fourth map onwards Yes, fully $3.79 CAD The one that rewards a plan
Cookie Jam Blast™ Match 3 Game Puzzle Two to five minutes a board Immediate, guided the whole way No, a connection is expected Free The everyday staple of the three

Sittings were timed by hand on a mid-range Android phone, so read them as a rhythm rather than a promise; the store price column is copied straight from the Google Play listing for Canada.

Questions readers send in

Does TroveGlint hand out games or keys?

No. There is no store here, no file to download and no account to open. TroveGlint is a reading room: we describe how a game behaves on a phone, and you decide whether to look it up in Google Play yourself.

Where do the prices and ratings on this page come from?

From the public Google Play listing for Canada, copied by hand on the day the shelf was refreshed. Store figures move without notice; if a listing disagrees with this page, the listing is the one to trust.

Why does one of the three titles show no rating?

Because Google Play publishes none for it. Sweet Drmzzz has no public rating yet on the Canadian listing, so the card says exactly that instead of inventing a figure or borrowing one from another storefront.

Can these titles be played without a connection?

Two of the three. Sweet Drmzzz and Jelly Defense run entirely on the device once installed, which makes them useful on a plane or a subway platform. Cookie Jam Blast™ Match 3 Game expects a connection for its episodes and saved progress.

How is the shelf chosen, and can a title be suggested?

One editor plays each candidate over at least two evenings and keeps only the titles that stay pleasant on a small screen. Suggestions are welcome by e-mail, and nothing is ever accepted in exchange for a place on the shelf.
